Websites and money attracts women to prostitution: Cong

PANJIM: State Mahila Congress Chief Sunita Vernekar claimed that increase in websites and money has attracted women to prostitution. The newly-appointed chief also criticized the statement made by Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar who described the rapists as ‘nadan.’

She questioned the safety of women under the leadership of such ministers. “Are women safe in Goa under the leadership of ministers making such statements? It clearly shows that the Tourism minister was defending the rapist. The government is not bothered of the safety of women,” she said and demanded an inquiry in the matter.
Vernekar also requested the government to aid women organisations dealing with domestic violence.
Speaking in the same tone as party President Luizinho Faleiro, the Mahila Congress chief demanded a ban on casinos and gambling. “We want casino ban in Goa. We don’t want any kind of gambling in the State,” she said.
She also highlighted the price rise and said, “Electricity bills and water bills have been shockers. Congress government had controlled the rates of water and electricity, but the current government has increased the rates by 100 per cent.”
