Mapusa: Videos of a dinner function with large number of guests in a starred hotel at Anjuna apparently violating COVID-19 safety protocol went viral on social media on Thursday late evening even as police said that it was a pre-wedding ceremony and that the families had obtained permission from the District Magistrate.
As soon as the incident went viral on social media, Anjuna Police rushed to the spot and checked whether the families had obtained permission for the marriage as it is happening during the curfew period.
When contacted, Anjuna PI Suraj Gawas said that a wedding ceremony between two families hailing from Guwahati and Belgaum is scheduled on Saturday and that both families had arrived in Goa on Thursday.
“Only 50 persons have taken permission to attend the wedding ceremony and they are staying in 25
rooms in the hotel. On Thursday they had assembled for dinner and strictly followed social distancing norms,” Gawas said, adding that he had checked whether there was any violation of COVID-19 protocol.
The Goa government last week eased restrictions and allowed marriage functions up to 50 persons with permission from the District Magistrate.
