Week-long winter session of Assembly in January

PANJIM: A week-long winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will be held in January, 2023.

Speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Speaker of Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar said that the winter session is due next month and will be held in the first or the second week of January.

“The dates will be finalised in the coming eight to ten days. It will be a short session,” he said.

This will be first session post defection of eight Congress MLAs into BJP. The MLAs had defected in September. The monsoon session of the State Assembly was held in June-July. The session was curtailed in the view of Panchayat polls.

Meanwhile, Tawadkar said that the notices in the disqualification petition will be issued in the coming ten days. He said that the notices will be served to all the eight respondents (MLAs) and also to the petitioner to appear.

“The first hearing will take place once the notices are issued,” he said.

Petitioner Girish Chodankar had recently filed an application seeking immediate disposal of the disqualification petition filed against the eight rebel Congress MLAs. He had accused Speaker of delaying the matter.
