Weekend Rescues and First Aid Interventions Along Goa’s Beaches

In an eventful weekend on the vibrant beaches of North Goa in December 2023, the quick response of Goa’s lifesavers ensured the safety and well-being of several beachgoers.

At Morjim beach, lifesavers Ketan Nagvekar and Vijay Mote sprang into action to rescue a 35-year-old Russian national who had ventured into the sea for a swim while under the influence. The vigilant lifesavers, aboard a jetski with a rescue board, promptly reached the struggling individual, assessed his condition, and successfully brought him back to the shore. Following a check of his vitals, the inebriated swimmer was reunited with his companion.

Meanwhile, at Anjuna Beach, a 39-year-old man from Hyderabad received immediate first aid after sustaining a deep gash on the sole of his left foot from a piece of glass hidden in the sand. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance due to the potential hazards posed by broken glass bits on the beaches.

Further down the coast at Calangute Beach, lifesavers Ashwin Ghag and Harsha Naik provided medical aid to a 68-year-old UK national. The individual had suffered an injury when a beach umbrella fell on her, resulting in a cut on her forehead and minor scratches on her right leg. Quick and efficient first-aid measures were administered before she was handed over to emergency services personnel (108) for a more thorough checkup.

Additionally, at Baga Beach, lifesavers successfully traced and reunited an 8-year-old boy from Pune with his father after he was reported missing. This heartwarming incident emphasizes the importance of the watchful eyes and swift actions of the lifesaving team in ensuring the safety of visitors to Goa’s beaches.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the potential risks associated with beach activities and the crucial role played by trained professionals in safeguarding the well-being of individuals enjoying the coastal beauty of Goa. Visitors are urged to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines to ensure a secure and enjoyable beach experience.
