PERNEM: Pernem police arrested a West Bengal native Baapi Mandal in connection with the alleged murder of 23-year-old Chiranjiv Jogeshchandra Roy at Gawde Wada, Morjim.
According to sources, the incident took place on Wednesday when the accused along with his colleague visited the victim’s residence at Gawde wada, Morjim. They were involved in a verbal argument and Mandal in a fit of anger allegedly stabbed Roy, also a native of West Bengal, causing him grievous injuries.
When Anand Berman, a relative of Roy, heard some noise, he immediately tried to save Roy and in the scuffle he sustained injuries.
Roy and Berman were immediately shifted to Primary Health Centre, Siolim for treatment. After three hours, both were discharged and were asked to come next day for dressing. When Roy complained of pain, one of his relatives rushed to the PHC centre and informed the staff about the same.
Sources informed that concerned staff at the PHC however allegedly refused to admit Roy saying he was discharged some time back and directed the relative to get Roy admitted to District Hospital, Mapusa. As the PHC had no ambulance, Roy was taken in a private car and died on the way to District Hospital, Mapusa on Thursday.
Sources informed that Roy and his brother were residing in Goa since last five years. The murder was the outcome of a business rivalry between Roy and Mandal as both were carpenters.
