Western Bypass at Mungul turns into waste dumping ground

Culprits taking advantage of no illumination of the road; Nuvem citizens demand strict action

MARGAO: Shockingly, the Western Bypass road from Verna toward the wholesale fish market at Mungul has turned up into a garbage dumping ground for the few, leading to nuisance in the open fields and river Sal. Even the fish waste from the wholesale fish market is found on the roadside in large quantities, and stinks all over.

Speaking to the media persons, the concerned citizens of Nuvem have urged the local MLA Wilfred D’Sa and Nuvem panchayat to act upon the nuisance and take strict action against the culprits.

Upon the information of the citizens team Herald visited the site and it was revealed that the whole stretch of Western Bypass which falls under the jurisdiction of Nuvem panchayat has resulted in dumping ground. Fish waste, besides bags of other garbage, is laying in bulks at the site. One can witness this mess on the left side of the Western Bypass while moving from the wholesale fish market to Nuvem, and it was also revealed that the culprits are taking advantage of no illumination of the road.

“This mess was noticed for the last many days. Earlier, bags of garbage were found on the roadside into the open fields, but now we have even noticed fish waste in large quantities dumped all over”, said Caetano Fernandes from Nuvem.

He informed that many times he had caught hold of a few culprits and warned them not to indulge in making nuisance.

“I am even afraid to bring my cattle over here. The concerned authorities, and more especially the village panchayat and the local MLA need to take serious note of this nuisance, otherwise it will lead to major health hazard”, he urged.

It is pertinent that crore of rupees have been spent on building this stretch of Western Bypass from Verna to Mungul, but the concerned department is yet to illuminate the road.  No illumination has led to nuisance and illegal activities on the roadside, mostly at the dark hours. The whole stretch is under darkness.
