MARGAO: Village panchayat Benaulim informed the gram sabha members that the panchayat is in the process of filing the petition before National Green Tribunal (NGT), besides appeals in High Court and the Supreme Court pertaining to Western Bypass on stilts.
An issue pertaining to the much discussed Western Bypass project again rose at the gram sabha meeting of village panchayat Benaulim held on Sunday.
Upon the questioning of the gram sabha members Xavier Pereira, Sarpanch informed that the draft of petition is in process as the panchayat will discuss the issue with the lawyer and petition will be filed before the NGT, besides High Court and the Supreme Court at the earliest.
The issues pertaining to the pollution of River Sal were also discussed at the gram sabha in length, besides repairs of river bandhs.
Rudolf Barreto raised the above issues seeking panchayat initiatives on protecting the river.
As informed, issues such as garbage and material recovery facility (MRF), speed barkers were also discussed. Gram sabha members demanded the beautification of the pathway heading towards Vaddie beach and Vasvaddo beach.
Interestingly, gram sabha members requested the panchayat to identify the low lying areas of Benaulim along with the village development committee and panch members.
Mhadei River and coal transportation related issues were also discussed wherein gram sabha once again resolved to oppose the diversion of Mhadei water and extension of coal transportation.
Deliberation on the annual budget was also held and got approved.
