What couldn’t happen from 1972, will happen by end of this year: Revenue Min

Holds meeting with Deputy Chief Minister and the South Goa District Collector regarding the first phase of rehabilitating the Selaulim evacuees

Margao: A major chunk of land losers of Selaulim dam will get their land rights by the year-end in the first phase of the pending rehabilitation plan.

This was announced after a review meeting held on Wednesday that was attended by Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, South Goa District Collector along with other officials. The meeting had been convened to discuss the issue of rehabilitating the Selaulim evacuees.

It is to be noted that at least 643 cases still await rehabilitation for the land they lost for the construction of the Selaulim dam in 1972.

After the meeting, the Revenue Minister said,” What couldn’t happen to date from 1972 will be done by the end of this year. The cases, which are in class II, will be given class I and the process of giving the land rights to the land losers will be completed.”

“Eight surveyors are working on the ground 24/7 to make sure the process is completed on the stipulated time. Of the 643 total people, 216 have got their rights. In the first phase occupancy from class II to class, I will be completed. In the second phase, the persons who have been not allotted at all will be taken up,” she added.

Deputy Chief Minister Kavlekar took a dig at previous Revenue Ministers and claimed that they had not done any work on the ground. “No minister took the personal interest. The desire to solve their issues was not there” he added.
