MARGAO: Shadow Council for Margao while strongly reacting to Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo’s statement on Sonsodo called for explanation of what exactly is happening at Sonsodo? SCM Convener Savio Coutinho listed out statements of Lobo, terming them as false.
Savio said “False statement number one is Minister says Bio Remediation work is almost done. Fact is that mere screening has taken place of hardly 25% of the old waste. Minister says that waste is being treated at Sonsodo by MMC. Fact is that absolutely no treatment is taking place there since August last year. Waste is simply shifted from one spot to another, and finally lands on the old dump. Where is the compost if treatment is taking place”, SCM questioned.
“Minister says 7 mini plants are proposed to be set up at Sonsodo which will cost over 35 crores. And these mini plants are set up temporarily, till the Big plant for South Goa comes up. According to information available, the setting up of these mini plants will be as per the decision of our local representatives. People of Margao would like to know from our representatives, when these experiments at Sonsodo end”, SCM questioned further.
“Why is everyone acting CLUELESS about a permanent solution at Sonsodo?, Coutinho lamented.
Terming Sonsodo as a big fat hen that lays golden eggs, Coutinho called upon the people of Margao to wake up and demands from the authorities a permanent solution to the Sonsodo problem.
