When a child rape victim isn’t believed, but the accused teacher gets support

A 59 year old teacher, accused of sexually assaulting a ten year old, finds support from sections of the school fraternity even as subtle threats have gone out to the victims family

This case shook the teaching fraternity. Last month, a primary student complained that a 59-year-old teacher sexually assaulted her thrice in the school campus. The Anjuna police swept into action but by then, the teacher had already moved the local court for anticipatory bail. He was subsequently granted the pre-arrest bail.
The Anjuna police, as a part of the investigation, obtained CCTV footage of the movements in the Siolim school campus, and subsequently sent for forensic analyses to the central forensic science laboratory (CFSL), Hyderabad. Sources said the footage contains data of one month prior to the victim’s mother filing a police complaint on August 19, 2015.
“The footage does not show the presence of the accused at the crime spots identified by the victim during the course of the investigation. However, the evidence obtained from the school authorities has been sent to CFSL Hyderabad to scientifically ascertain the revelations,” a police source told Herald.
While the report is expected in the next couple of weeks, Anjuna PI Paresh Naik said a chargesheet is likely in one or two weeks.
