The Chief Minister made a good decision to withdraw the term ‘Bhumiputra’ from the Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill and ask people for suggestions on what the Bill should be called.
It is, however, clear by now that the intent of the bill was only to fool the migrants and get their votes by the promise of this bill. Dabolim MLA and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho spearheaded this bill and supported by MLAs like Babush and Jennifer Monserrate, Ravi Naik, Michael Lobo, Digambar Kamat, Joshua D’Souza and many others who have decisive migrant votes in their constituencies. Let them only decide what to call this Bill, which anyway cannot be implemented.
It is a Bill which will not stand the test of law and it is clear that the matter would go to the courts. Legal experts have said strongly that this bill does not have a legal footing.
Therefore it is Mauvin Godinho and all others who are out to fool the innocent migrants should be asked what the Bill should be called now because the intention is to somehow make them feel that they will be getting their illegal land regularised and let the decision-making drag on, along with the legal challenges. This will totally backfire when the migrants will get nothing.
A big mess has been created by these migrant vote-seeking MLAs doing a literal rape of migrant votes. CM Pramod Sawant would not have wanted to be in this mess in the first place, created by these MLAs.
Now, in order to fool the migrants they will send their teams from door-to-door to collect their Aadhaar and ration cards and other documents to show that they have started the process of legalising their illegal land. This drama will play out before the election till the purpose of securing the migrant vote is achieved.
But the migrants should know better. This drama will end only when the votes are cast and the migrants have to return to Karnataka and other places where they came from.
