NETRAVALI: When the government falls short in providing the basics to its people, the people come on the roads and get it done. Two youths from Nunem ward of Netravali village panchayat decided to do what the government didn’t with their bare hands
The road to Mangal from Government High School Neturlim which proceeds to Nunem and onwards to Canacona was repaired some time back by the PWD contractor. The road however developed several potholes all over again making the stretch of road from Government High School Netravali to Mangal accident prone as the numerious potholes once filled with water are not noticeable.
Since the broken down road is widely used by motorists on daily basis, two youths from the village Prabhakar Gaonkar and Suhas Gaonkar took the responsibility of reparing the major potholes in the village all by themselves and at their own cost.
Prabhakar Gaonkar who owns a rickshaw loaded his vehicle with rubble and filled some of the potholes which had developed on the stretch of road to Mangal from Netravali school. “The potholes will be covered with cement tomorrow” (Tuesday) informed Gaonkar while speaking to Herald.
It is an irony that the authorities permit their contractor to carry on substandard work with no checks on its quality”, claimed Gaonkar adding that the condition of roads in villages even more remote is worse. And there people hardly approach the authorities to complain.
