VALPOI: Reminding the faithful to be a blessing to the whole world, Cardinal Mar George Alencherry on Sunday said penance controls the human body and man cannot live with bread alone, but has to also take the Word of God.
Cardinal Allencherry, who is the Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly and head of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, was delivering his homily during the Eucharistic celebration at Pilar Seminary Chapel.
Cardinal Alenchery was the main celebrant for the Eucharistic celebration along with the Chancellor of Archdiocese of Goa, Daman & Diu Fr Manuel Dias and Chancellor of Syro Malabar Catholic Church Fr Anthony Kollanur and other priests from different parts of Goa. About 1,000 faithful had assembled at the Pilar Seminary Chapel. On the occasion, about 25 children received their first Holy Communion and Confirmation from Cardinal Alenchery.
The Cardinal expressed his gratitude to Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao for all the convenience provided to the Syro Malabar faithful.
He also praised the simplicity and graceful attitude of Archbishop Filip Neri Ferrao. “When you are merciful, you are like God,” he added.
Later, a procession of the faithful was taken out with the statues of St Alphonsa and St Sebastian in coloured umbrellas.
Earlier, there was the celebration of taking the Ampu (arrow) in veneration of St Sebastian.
Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao appreciated all the Syro-Malabar faithful for the valuable contribution to the Church. “Syro Malabar is a beautiful plant with beautiful flowers in the garden of church and the contribution is too great,” Archbishop added.
