Even as impasse continues in the Margao Municipal Council over the question of appointing a technical consultant before setting up the waste treatment plant at Sonsodo, the Cuncolim Municipal Council seems to have shown the way how to go about work on a waste treatment plant.
The Cuncolim Municipal Council on Tuesday has invited Expression of Interest from qualified and experienced consultants/consortium to prepare a Detailed Project Report for setting up a 10 metric ton garbage treatment plant.
The consultant will also look after the construction of sanitary land fill site proposed near the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
CMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said the Council has invited the Expression of Interest to engage the consultant since the Civic body has no technical expertise to deal with the matter.
Incidentally, while the Cuncolim Municipal Council has invited the Expression of Interest to engage a consultant, the Margao Municipal council is yet to take a decision whether to appoint a consultant or go ahead with the project sans a technical consultant.
As things stand today, the Margao Civic body has resolved to leave the decision of appointing a consultant to the government, even though the Urban Development Minister, Joaquim Alemao has made to quite clear that the government cannot decide the question for the Civic body.
Interestingly, the proposed joint meeting amongst the elected representatives, including the Chief Minister and Urban development Minister, besides the MLAs of Fatorda and Curtorim is yet to take place till date, thus further delaying a decision on the question of appointing a technical consultant to evaluate the technical bids and to assist the Civic body in the setting up of the plant and machinery.
The question over the appointment of a technical consultant had kicked up a row after the Urban development Minister insisted that the Civic body appoint a technical consultant, which surprising has not gone with the powers that be.
