Who threatened youth, asks Power Min

Assures to take necessary action

CURCHOREM: Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral on Monday demanded to know who had threatened the youth and as to when and where did they meet him.

He was reacting to Mauvin Pereira’s statement during the Chicalim Youth Farmers Club (CYFC) press briefing that the youth, who met the Power Minister, were allegedly threatened and were told that cases would be registered against them and their passports’ would be kept and they would not get government jobs.

Cabral said, “Let Pereira come along with the youth and inform me as to who has threatened them, I will enquire and take necessary action.”

Stating that he loves youth not only from his constituency but from all across Goa, Cabral said he likes to communicate, solve and explain the issues if they have any doubts.

“I would like to know so let Pereira along with youth come and meet me and show as to who has threatened them with such language and besides that if they have any doubts, I am ready to listen and explain to them my point of view,” he said.

“Till date nobody from my constituency told me that they are against the double tracking. On the contrary, many long pending issues of the people, who are residing along the railway lines will be solved such as construction of underpasses, roads and over bridge,” he said.

Reacting to the statement made by his constituents Gabriel, Ali Shaikh and Harshad Gauns with regards to laying of double tracks, Cabral said all those persons are members of an Opposition political party and no one is staying near the railway tracks.

“All those people, who are residing near the tracks are cooperating and have welcomed the decision. If anyone is opposed then they including those three leaders should have come and meet me,” Cabral said and informed that care will be taken with regards to vibrations while laying the line and that there will be less engine noise during movement of trains due to electrification.

Former councillor from Kamral Ward of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Manohar Naik, who resides 30 metres away from the railway track said, “If double tracking is done then many issues will be solved like direct passenger train from Goa to Mumbai including other destinations but under the guise of development no one has a right to destroy the environment which our forefathers preserved for us and now it is our duty to preserve it for our future generations.”

Naik suggested keeping the existing single track between Collem and Castlerock.
