PANJIM: This is a case of a man-in-uniform, who instead of protecting the modesty of women, has shamelessly attempted to outrage it.

A woman from Porvorim has filed a complaint against a police constable attached to the Mapusa Traffic Cell for stalking and sending lewd messages since June.

The woman in her complaint has stated that the constable had first visited her residence in February this year regarding a complaint and since then has been repeatedly calling her on her cellphone and sending vulgar and lewd messages.

The cop was forcing her to forward her photograph in a night gown and that he would delete it after seeing it. The cop would dare to bare himself and send bare-chested photos of him flexing his muscles. He also frequently made video calls.

The constable told the woman that the loves and misses her a lot. He even told her that his wife is now living with his son in Pune and that he was residing at Colvale with his daughter.

The complaint further states that the constable repeatedly moves around her house at Porvorim, which makes her, feel insecure and when she earlier went to the Porvorim Police Station, she was discouraged from lodging a complaint.

Since the constable was first posted at the Porvorim Police Station, in July she complained to the North Goa SP Shobhit Saxena, who forwarded her complaint to the SP (Traffic) to take necessary action into the matter and to inform the action taken directly to the complainant.

The Porvorim Police have registered a case against the constable under Sections 354A and 354D of IPC. A lady PSI, Pranita Mandrekar of the Porvorim Police Station has written to the complainant asking her to furnish names and addresses of witnesses, if any, and to provide evidence relevant to the case. She has been also asked to hand over to the police mobile phones bearing SIM numbers in order to conduct further investigation in the matter. If not, the case will be finalised for lack of evidence.

However, the woman feels that the police will shield their own and justice will remain a distant dream.
