As small constituency, Aldona which has about 23000 voters, it seems to have become a popular joint for all national leaders for canvassing.
Ever since the elections were announced on January 4, around five top national leaders from various parties have held public meetings in the constituency.
First to hold a meeting at Aldona was Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal during his three-day campaign-stay in Goa on January 22. Thereafter, it was the turn of Union Minister Smriti Irani requesting votes for BJP’s Glenn Ticlo.
Next it was the turn of Congress’ Sachin Pilot to canvass for Amarnath Panjikar.
Besides these, the BJP’s State stalwart and the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Shripad Naik are having meetings in the constituency.
So what makes Aldona such a place of interest?
Ask Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo and is prompt to answer, the opponents have seen the development work and know they cannot win.
“I have taken up the work of Calvim bridge in record time of 14 months besides road widening and other related issues,” he says. The opponents have nothing to show and hence they are bringing their leaders to make a case for them, he says.
“The different schemes taken up by BJP have reached the people, who are very happy. All the demands of the people have been fulfilled and we expect a good share of vote,” he said.
“The people have some genuine problems and we want to tell them if Congress comes to power, we will fulfil the demands of the people,” Panjikar said.
Rosy Ursulla D’Souza AAP candidate said,” We will development this constituency as per AAP’s ideology by giving power to the people and decisions will be made by taking people’s consent”.
