PANJIM: Congress is of the opinion that MGP has been punished by fate for being irresponsible and forming a government with the BJP against the mandate of the people.
GPCC president Girish Chodankar said “They have consciously decided to go with the BJP. They have changed their narratives after the death of late Parrikar and again joined hands with the BJP. They have been punished for supporting and bringing the BJP government.”
Responding to a question on whether the Congress will be seeking an alliance or support of the MGP during the by-polls, Girish said “Why Congress has to go and help someone who has decided their fate with their own actions. Let MGP fight the BJP and we will focus on our people and whatever is happening is good for the Congress and people have realised that the Congress is the only option for them.”
He further recalled the statement made by Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai ahead of the polls in 2017 and said “Vijai had made a public statement in Siolim that whosoever goes along with the BJP and supports them will be finished and they will be cursed and their children too will be cursed. We will have to see how much that statement resembles the MGP’s current status.”
Stating that first the BJP rode on the back of the MGP and came to power. The BJP has finished the party and MGP is responsible for their own fate. “Goa Forward  too will face the same fate. This moment is a warning to GFP leaders”, Girish added.
Stating that politics has been taken to the lowest level by the BJP to retain power by hook or crook, he termed it as one of  the most shameful moments of politics. He added “Goans  will have to think about this party, which claimed to be with a difference and with principles and is moving in this direction. It is a dangerous trend. They are getting the MLAs but they are losing the people and this will be dangerous for the BJP. This is a dangerous way ahead for democracy and we will go to the people with awareness to save democracy.
He further said “This is a lesson not just to the BJP but is also a lesson to the MGP which betrayed the mandate of the people and formed a government against the wishes of the people.”
Meanwhile former Sanquelim MLA Pratap Gawas joined the Congress party along with his supporters on Thursday. He had left the Congress and joined Nationalist Congress Party ahead of the 2017 elections on being denied the ticket contest the Assembly polls of 2017.
