Wife of Italian envoy suffers head injury after firecracker strikes her at Mandrem resort

Resort owner booked for negligence, allowing fireworks display in premises endangering human life and personal safety of others

PANJIM: The Wife of Ambassador of Italy to India suffered burn injury due to burning of fire crackers in a resort at Ashvem, Mandrem.

In his complaint According to information available from the Mandrem police, the incident occurred on Friday, February 2 at around 10.10 pm, where the owner/proprietor of the resort rashly and negligently allowed display of fireworks from the premises of the resort at Ashvem thereby endangering human life and personal safety of others.

The fireworks display struck Paula Ferri, wife of Ambassador of Italy to India, thereby resulting in grievous injury to her head, the police said.

Following the incident, Honorary Vice Consul of Italy in Goa, Srinivas V Dempo lodged a complaint against the resort owner/proprietor for rashly and negligently allowing fireworks display from the premises and causing injury to the wife of Ambassador of Italy. 

The Mandrem police have registered a case against the resort owner/proprietor under section 338 of IPC and PSI Kunal Naik is conducting investigations under the guidance of  Mandrem PI Sherif Jacques. This is the first criminal case registered at the Mandrem police station since it was inaugurated on January 25 this year. 

“ The incident had occurred on New Year’s eve and we received a copy of the complaint only on February 2. We are investigating the case as we don’t have much details of the case as the Mandrem police station was inaugurated only on 25 January,” stated Jacques.
