Wild boar meat, 33 crude bombs seized

In a major raid, Forest department seized around 30 kilogram of wild boar meat, besides 33 crude bombs used in the killing of wild animals.
In this connection, the forest officials arrested a father-son duo and also attached two two-wheelers from the accused persons.
While the meat stacked in gunny bags was seized from near a hotel in Margao, the crude bombs were seized from the residence of the accused person at Siddhnagar-Cuncolim.
Forest official Francis Araujo told newsmen that the forest personnel has seized 30 kg of the wild boar and have arrested the two persons.
“The people should realise that it a crime to kill wild boar when it has been banned under the law in force”, he said while seeking co-operation from the citizens to stop illegal poaching.
Forest officials said the accused Nagu Nagappa had been allegedly involved in the killing of wild animals as evident by the seizure of the crude bombs from his residence. Officials were further taken aback when they came across various trap items used for trapping animals, besides a couple of cages.
These items were unearthed when he along with his son were taken to his residence at Sidhanagar-Cuncolim after the seizure of the wild boar meat.
Sources in the know said that the wild boar meat was meant for the various hotels and restaurants dotting the Commercial capital.
Forest officials said the father-son duo have been booked under Section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act and are in their custody.
