PANJIM: Systematically sidelining the issue of declaring Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as Wildlife Reserve, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the boundaries of Wildlife Sanctuaries will be demarcated which will solve the 80 p.c of man-animal conflict.
Speaking to reporters while inaugurating the Forest Department building at Altinho, Sawant said that the families in wildlife sanctuaries would be shifted soon. “Whatever happened recently was unfortunate and not within our hands,” CM said without naming the tiger killing incident adding “but from now on we will be more careful and will not allow such incidents to be repeated.”
He said the families in deep forests will be shifted soon in nearby villages. “Also, villages in wildlife sanctuaries will be demarcated and fencing will be done soon. The border demarcation will solve 80 p.c problems of man-animal conflict,” he said.
Chief Minister also said that the range forest officers have been told to be polite to the villagers.
“RFOs have to be responsible. Locals should not be burdened in forests,” he said.Chief Minister did not take any questions on declaring Mhadei wildlife sanctuary as tiger reserve.
