BELGAUM: Sri Ram Sene’s Pramod Muthalik strikes a nervous and divisive chord in Goa whenever he speaks. He has confirmed that he will be in Goa for the on going national Hindu convention. Speaking to the Herald, he and his colleague Gangadhar Kulkarni laid bare the right wing Hindu organisation’s plans in Goa, starting with the establishment of its office in August.
Herald: With the BJP in power at the Centre, you are obviously confident of furthering your agenda and plans?
PM: We are looking forward towards a healthy and stronger India and hence, I would be implementing the agenda of Hindu Rashtra. Certainly, no one can oppose us entering Goa as it is the part of the Indian Union.
Moreover, I don’t want to comment about BJP, politics and politicians. A certain mandate has been given at the all India level. Jab hum Goa unit shuru karte hain tab dekhenge kya hota hai! (Let us see what happens when our Goa unit is launched.)
Herald: What are your plans for Goa?
PM: We have plans to launch our Sri Ram Sene branch in Goa in August this year.
Herald: Don’t you think launching of SRS in Goa would disturb the communal harmony there?
PM: Don’t we have the right to conserve the Hindu culture, which is under threat due to the Western culture which is thriving in Goa with the blessings of the drug mafia?
We would like to awaken Goan youth against the dance, drug and pub culture. Our Hindu culture is under threat and it is our duty to bring the youth on the right track and no one can stop us from doing so.
(Gangadhar Kulkarni, in-charge of Goa comes in)
GK: Our agenda of Hindu Rashtra is aimed at opposing those who are engaged in destroying the Indian culture.
We will not spare the mafia in Goa engaged in drug trade, encouraging it through pub culture and partying and spoiling the young generation. We also intend to bring about a strong awakening against cow slaughter. SRS will
strengthen the concept of Hindutva in Goa and a meeting will be convened in Goa on June 26.
Herald: Then why there are protests against your entry in Goa?
GK: Perhaps the Christians are misled or their opposition is politically motivated. Moreover, they are afraid because they are indulging in conversions.
PM: I am surprised about the opposition by Christians. It is high time that the Christians should stop their protests against SRS as it is a legitimate organization. Moreover, we too have strength and we know how to retaliate. Where were the Christians during a Muslim convention that was held in Goa a couple of years ago? We understand that Jihadis too were present for that meet. Does it mean that Christians support Jihadis? I urge Christians to immediately stop illegal conversions in Goa.
Herald: Do you remember you were banned from entering Goa by former home minister Ravi Naik ?
PM: I am an ardent (kattar) Hindutvavadi and believe in the concept of Akhand Hindu Rashtra. The ban was politically motivated. Moreover, I too was maligned like our present PM Narendra Modiji was in the Gujarat riots. The ban against my entry in Goa was the part of a shadayantra (conspiracy).
Herald: By enforcing your ideology, are you not alienating other sections of society?
PM: I am striving for my cause for last 40 years. I think I have not alienated the society anywhere, but have tried to unite, organize and awaken Hindus in the region. Moreover, I am not enforcing anything. I believe that whatever I am doing is based on truth and hence, nobody’s sentiments should be hurt.
