Will complete term with allies: CM

Says it is for MGP to decide on support; Will welcome support from others including Alemao

PANJIM: Though BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the House with 17 MLAs, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday asserted that his government will not drop any of the alliance partners.
Sawant also said he has no problem if MGP wants to continue with its ‘unconditional’ support to the BJP government.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of swearing in ceremony of the new MLAs, Sawant said the State government would complete its term along with all the alliance partners, though BJP has now become stronger on the floor of the House.
Sawant now enjoys the support of 24 MLAs including one from MGP. The regional party is yet to withdraw its support given to the government.
“If MGP continues to give unconditional support to the government, why should I ask them to withdraw it?” Sawant said responding to a question.
He also said that it is for MGP to decide whether they want to continue or withdraw support. “Even if someone else wants to support, like Churchill Alemao (NCP), then we welcome it,” the Chief Minister added.
During the recent Lok Sabha election, MGP had supported Congress in the State, after Sawant had dropped its lone MLA Ramakrishna Dhavalikar from the cabinet. Prior to that, two MGP MLAs – Manohar Azgaonkar and Dipak Pawaskar – had split from the party and joined BJP.
The MGP central committee has resolved to withdraw support to the BJP-led government, however, an official communication in this regard has not been made to Governor
Dr Mridula Sinha.
