PANJIM: Expressing sorrow over the recent tragedy at Zuari bridge, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday appealed to the people to drive responsibly regardless during the day or at night.
“As a Minister for Transport, I am also the president of the Safety Council by default. We did not and will never compromise on people’s safety. There is a proposal of installing more CCTVs and traffic signals on highways at the cost of 2.5 crore. The respective work will be carried out by PWD through the funds provided by the Transport Department. This will help to track the motorists who over speed and the challan for the same will be sent on their address through post,” he said.
“One lane of the new Zuari bridge will be opened by December. Even if the government takes all the precautions, in the end, it’s up to the drivers to look after their own safety. Blaming the government for your own mistakes will not solve anything. One should not over speed even at nights,” Godinho added.
