PANJIM: IT and Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte on Friday committed to make Goa one of the most favourite and top IT destinations in India in the next five years. The minster also promised that the Start-Up IT policy will be a reality within the next 15-20 days.
“As far as Revenue and the IT departments are concerned, we can go ahead and talk of steps taken in the last 100 days wherein we have been trying to relate a system favourable for the industry. IT is the backbone of the States which have grown economically where the environment has been created, and I think we had a shortfall somewhere. Policies were outlined but things were not defined,” Khaunte said addressing the annual general meeting of the Goa State Industry Corporation (GSIA)
“In the last 100 days we have come closer to launching the Start-Up policy. The Chief Minister has personally taken the stakeholders’ expectations into consideration. In 15 to 20 days it (the policy) will be a reality. Graduates and professional students passing out every year will get opportunities. It will also give existing industries a chance to expand. Some had been setting up in the neighbouring states as Goa had no opportunities,” Khaunte said.
He added that Goa is looked upon as favourite destination as far as IT is concerned and in the next five years Goa will be in the top five of favourite IT destinations.
Speaking of the Revenue Department, Khaunte said, “In Revenue Department too we have started delivering what people’s expectations were.”
