CUNCOLIM: The seven newly elected councillors who have joined hands with former MLA Joaquim Alemao have stated that they are with the Alemao panel and will not succumb to the BJP’s alleged pressure tactics to change sides.
It may be recalled that Alemao had announced that his panel will form the ruling group of the Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) and that Lavita Mascarenhas and Mario Morais would be the chairperson and vice chairperson respectively. There were rumors that the BJP is trying to pull three councillors from the Alemao panel into its group and that Alemao had shifted all seven councillors somewhere else to keep them out of the BJP’s reach.
A councillor from the Alemao panel stated that the seven of them will remain with Alemao and that it is too late to change their minds. He also said that it is the BJP’s fault for missing the opportunity to form the council.
Meanwhile, the elections for the chairperson and vice chairperson posts will be held on Thursday at 11am.
