He added that he did not have the LB file and there wasn’t even one signature of his on the file awarding consultancy to the company.
Kamat was speaking amidst a crowd of over 1,500 supporters, including GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro, Opposition Leader Pratapsingh Rane, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai, at his residence on Wednesday. Faleiro extended “full support” to Kamat, while Rane asked for a CBI inquiry to ensure a fair trail.
While clearing his stand on the case, Digambar said, “I had asked for an inquiry into the file, and now people are saying the file has been lost. I asked for an inquiry into this LB transaction as it never happened. I was surprised when some LB officials come to Goa and stated that they paid me and Churchill Alemao. My house is never open for such people, that too at night, which is the time they claimed to have met me.”
GPCC President Faleiro stated, “The government is using blackmail to put MLAs in trouble. I dare them to go to America and investigate the case, and not trouble anyone else for that. Get the statements of the people who have spoken in Washington. I request the Indian government to get the proof from America and investigate the case. This is a trap laid by the government on the backdrop of the elections. Congress is fully backing Digambar Kamat in this case.”
When asked about Alemao, he added, “I am supporting my Congress party men and am here for them.”
Rane stated, “BJP has begun its autocratic governance in Goa. We won’t spare them. Across religious and political lines, Goans need a government that makes the law equal for all. The government is trying to pull Digambar in this, and these attempts will happen to all of us. We had demanded a CBI inquiry in this matter, but they are least bothered.”
“BJP doesn’t want to have free and fair elections, and that is the reason they are trying to put Digambar in trouble. There will be complaints against Vijai too because of his active participation in the Assembly. That is the way BJP rules,” said former Minister Babu Ajgaonkar.
“The file of a new casino has been moved. When we tried to object to this, we were silenced. Even the beach cleaning contract has been increased to Rs 14 crore from Rs 2 crore. It clearly shows that there is an attempt to suppress democracy,” said MLA Sardessai, adding, “Where are the Congress MLAs hiding now? Backstabbing is habitual to the Congress.”
