PANJIM: Vedanta-Sesa Goa Iron Ore has informed that it would set up Rs 100-crore fund to protect livelihood of vulnerable communities impacted by COVID-19.
According to press note issued here, the company has said that besides the Rs 100-crore fund, it has initiated several on-ground support activities to alleviate the sufferings of vulnerable communities impacted by COVID-19.
These initiatives, according to the press release, are: voluntary one day salary contribution towards the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund by its employees; providing cooked food to daily wage earners; stitching of three-layered cloth masks through local women SHGs to be distributed to police/volunteers in Goa; providing need-based ambulance to the district administration in Goa; providing government hospitals with masks, sanitizers and IEC material; shelter home facility at Codli mines for labourers who are making attempts to cross state borders by walking to reach their hometowns due to food crisis; and providing grocery packets to needy people in coordination with district administration.
“Entire world is facing the worst ever crisis due to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and the infection is spreading rapidly. The novel coronavirus has already devastated many countries across the globe leading to drastic economic slowdown,” says the press release.
As such, the press release says, Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore, as a responsible corporate body, is committed to socio-economic development of communities. “During this difficult circumstance due to COVID-19 pandemic, our main objective is to protect our staffs and community, and take all responsible action to help stop the Coronavirus from spreading further,” says the press release.
