OLD GOA: Stating that he is willing to step down if anybody proves that he is not worthy of being a candidate of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Dattaram Dessai has called upon the people to complain to the party before the nomination process begins.
Dessai was speaking at a corner meeting near
Santa Cruz Church square on Monday.
“If anybody feels that I am involved in corruption or any other issues, feel free to complain to the party as there are still two more days left before the nomination process begins,” Dessai suggested to the gathering. “The party will then inquire into the complaint and if there is any truth in it, then I will willingly step down as AAP candidate.”
Speaking further, Dessai admitted that he was a member of the BJP as he believed the saffron was the lesser evil and there were persons in that party who were willing to listen to people.
“However, after Anna Hazare’s ‘India against corruption’ campaign, I realised that BJP and Congress are two sides of the same coin and I left the party in 2011,” Dessai added.
Dessai further said this Lok Sabha elections will give the people of Goa a chance to bring in a revolution by voting for AAP and root out the evils of corruption, criminalisation, etc, which are plaguing today’s political system.
“If I am elected as MP, I will highlight issues affecting Goa effectively,” he said and informed that he will also take the opinion of the people before taking up any issues.
Dr Oscar Rebello and other speakers also spoke. A member registration drive was also undertaken by AAP on the occasion.
