MAPUSA: Councillors Shubhangi Vaingankar and Chandrashekhar Benkar were elected unopposed as the new chairperson and vice-chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council, respectively.
On Thursday, the elections for the posts were held at a special meeting, wherein Presiding Officer Ravishekhar Nipanikar declared Shubhangi and Chandrashekhar elected unopposed.
Thanking the Council and MLA, newly elected Chairperson Shubhangi said she will give priority to the garbage issue besides the River Tar and bus stand issues.
“There are several issues in town which needs attention. These also include garbage, which is major issue, River Tar, which is used as immersion site, which is also important and the bus stand. I will study the issues of the town and the remedy needed to resolve it. Also the council cannot do anything if there is no revenue. Due to COVID pandemic, the market is closed and other businesses are also suffering. I request everybody to cooperate for the development of Mapsua,” said Shubhangi.
Denying allegation of money involvement for her entry into the BJP, she said there is no monetary involvement. The way party had set me aside, similarly with due respect, the party has taken me in.
Meanwhile, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza said the decision to rotate the post of chairperson within the councilors will be taken up based on their performance.
