POINGUINIM: Two houses were damaged after a tree was uprooted due to cyclonic winds of high intensity that struck some villages in Cotigao and parts of Gaondongrem-Canacona on Thursday night.
The two houses that were badly damaged after a tree that belonged to Janu Gaonkar at Baddem-Cotigao fell and the loss is estimated at around Rs 1 lakh.
Sources informed that there was no rainfall but the cyclonic winds that lasted for over two hours destroyed standing crops and vegetation.
Canacona Mamlatdar Ravi Nipanikar along with Canacona Police and fire personnel visited the spot and took stock of the situation to ascertain the damage and provide relief to people. No loss of human life was reported.
According to a site inspector of Canacona Mamlatdar’s office, many trees were uprooted in this densely forested area and roof-tiles of houses were damaged.
