VASCO: It was a pleasant surprise for people who visited an ATM in Baina on Monday evening, when the machine emitted excess cash, and in some cases, doubled the amount the customer had withdrawn.
Many people who withdrew Rs 5000 received Rs 12,500 instead, and after hearing about this ‘generous’ ATM, people began visiting from distant localities to withdraw cash. Local councillor Ramchandra Kamat, who visited the ATM on receiving the news, was shocked to see a large crowd at the spot, with people fighting each other to have a go at the machine. “I immediately alerted the police, who contacted the bank officials. They arrived at the site and shut down the ATM,” said Kamat.
