COLLEM: Incessant rains accompanied by strong winds uprooted trees and damaged houses, while electricity wires were snapped and power supply was disrupted for nearly eight hours in Collem.
The house belonging to Deepak Chari was damaged, after a huge jackfruit tree came crashing down on the house.
At Bazarwada-Collem, two big trees fell on the house of one Barreto, while at Tambdimal-Collem, the roof of a house belonging to Uday Mahale was blown away due to cyclonic winds. Household goods like clothes, utensils and food stuff were damaged in the process.
Fire personnel from Curchorem fire station rushed to Collem and cleared the uprooted trees.
Collem and surrounding areas were plunged into darkness for nearly 8 hours after a huge trees fell snapping overhead electricity wires. The Electricity department personnel were on their toes to restore the power supply.
Assistant engineer of Curchorem Electricity department said the estimated damage caused is about Rs 1.30 lakh.
