PANJIM: The St Inez church road stretch in Panjim has become a safety hazard due to the presence of wires and cables hanging precariously from electric poles and trees. This situation poses a particular risk to senior citizens and children in the area.
Despite the repeated appeals made to the relevant authorities, including the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), no action has been taken to address the issue, according to local residents.
Anurag Mahale, a Panjim resident, highlighted the dangers of the haphazardly hanging cables and wires. “It can lead to electric shocks and fires. The authorities concerned, including the state electricity department, must take immediate action to clear the loose wires,” Mahale urged.
Political activist Cecille Rodrigues emphasised, “It is the responsibility of the CCP Councillor in charge to ensure the removal of such hazardous cables, thereby safeguarding pedestrians. She expressed concern about young children getting entangled or falling in the area, considering it as a form of entertainment, unaware of the potential dangers.”
Rodrigues called on the local Councillor to fulfill their duty and address the issue promptly.
Additionally, Rodrigues appealed to the CCP to prioritise the removal of these cables and wires to prevent any untoward incidents from occurring.
