WISL to commence operations soon

PANJIM: Western India Shipyard Limited (WISL), which was closed for the last 10 months, will commence operations in Goa soon.

The WISL management has agreed to pay the staff their pending salaries and all other employee benefits in the next two months. As assured, part payment of 35% was released on Wednesday, WISL Workers’ Union leader Ajitsingh Rane said.
Speaking to the media, Rane said the ongoing protest against the WISL management and Goa government has been temporarily called off.
He said that if the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and the company management fail to keep their word then the union will take to the streets again.
Rane said that the WISL dock is in a deteriorated condition and the repairs will take at least 60 days. He added that the management has said they will be getting the first vessel for repairs shortly.
