VASCO: With the health condition of both Western India Shipyard Limited (WISL) workers, sitting on an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan, Panjim deteriorating day-by-day, their colleagues have decided to intensify their protest across Goa and have also threatened to march to the State Legislative Assembly if the government fails to resolve their issue of pending salary.
The WISL workers, who carried out a protest rally at Headland Sada on Sunday, demanded that it is high time that the State government should come to their rescue. Family members of WISL workers took part in the rally in large number.
“It is sad that our colleagues have to sit on an indefinite hunger strike to seek justice and relief.  We don’t know when the state government would come to our rescue,” a WISL worker said.
He said, “The health condition of both of our colleagues who are on hunger strike since last few days is deteriorating day-by-day and if anything happens to them, then the state government would be held responsible for the same,” he added.
Another WISL worker claimed, “Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had assured us during the last budget session of State Assembly that he would soon resolve our issue of pending salary. However, he did nothing.”
“We have only received assurances from all political leaders including our Chief Minister but till date no one actually has done anything. Now, if things are not resolved within two days, then we have decided to intensify our protest but this time it would be all over Goa and not restricted to Vasco or Panjim. Also if the leaders don’t come to our rescue, then we along with our family members would march to state assembly,” he said.
