VASCO: The WISL workers were pretty upset and shocked to read the public notice issued by the management which said that it will suspend operations from September 30 and has also advised workers not to report for duty or make any attempt to enter the shipyard. Following the notice, the workers’ union has decided to lock themselves inside the company premises before the September 30 deadline.
Speaking to Herald, union leader Seby Pereira said that “We are shocked and disappointed to read the public notice about company’s decision to suspend its operations from September 30. We hoped the company, after releasing four months’ salaries, would re-start operations sooner or later, however, a
sudden closure will leave us jobless and thus we have decided to lock ourselves inside the company premises and would not come out of the company until the management settles life-time retirement dues to all the 350 odd workers in toto”.
The workers’ union has also consulted the union Leader Ajit Singh Rane and their lawyers to take a decision on the future course of action. A decision either to take the legal path or to plan a protest will be announced on Wednesday.
