PANJIM: Goa, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi feels holds the potential to develop into an educational hub, has ample scope for improvement as it has been ranked 20th on the national educational development index of the Union Ministry for Human Resource Development This is an improvement from last year’s 33rd position.
Goa was ranked 13th in 2010-11, according to National University for Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) data compiled for HRD ministry.
The State ranks 19th in the primary level educational parameters and 22nd in the upper primary level parametres. While it has managed to make tremendous progress on the infrastructural level, the State ranked 12th on count-teacher index-at the primary and upper primary level, better than states such as Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.
The teacher parameter indicates larger number of qualified teachers, fewer educators appointed on contractual basis, higher proportion of female teachers, lesser non-teaching assignments and more in-service trainings provided to teachers.
School infrastructure has also shot upto almost 97 per cent as on now.
