PANJIM: With just a month left for the new Academic Year 2021-22 to kick-start, the State government is yet to decide on whether the term will begin in offline or online mode.
The Academic calendar will begin from June 21. Annually, the academic year for the students of Class I to IX and XI end by April 30, with the declaration of the results. However, this year, to ensure that there is no academic loss to the students in view of COVID pandemic, the Directorate of Education (DoE) had extended the 2020-21 term till May 9.
Sources informed that the Academic year will commence as per schedule. However, whether classes will be held online or offline, the decision is yet to be taken.
Sources said that considering the prevailing COVID-19 situation and possible impact of third wave, the DoE will put up the proposal before the government by first week of June with regards to conduct of classes.
“All the stakeholders will be taken into confidence before detailing out the schedule for conduct of classes,” sources said.
As per the expert, in the third wave of COVID, the children below 18 years would be vulnerable to the virus.
The last academic year was held via an online mode due to the pandemic induced lockdown. The offline classes for Class IX to XII had resumed post Diwali vacation in November, last year.
Though, the schools were permitted to hold final exams via an offline mode, the same had to be suspended in view of sudden surge in Coronavirus cases in mid-March, this year.
The Board exams of Class X and XII are currently postponed. Meanwhile, as per the Academic calendar 2021-22, the first summative or terminal examination ends by October 26 and the second summative exam will be held preferably before April 6, 2022.
