PANJIM: The State government is in process to redraft the Portugal Civil Code, to tune in with the changing scenario in the State, Minister for Law Nilesh Cabral told the House.
During the recently concluded Assembly Session, Cabral said that the government has approved to constitute a committee of legal experts to redraft the Family Code or Portugal Civil Code.
“Overall I understand the sentiments, the government has approved a Constitution of Committee to redraft the Code considering the changing time to the tune of the recent scenario in India,” he said responding during Zero Hour mention by Congress MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco.
He said that the government is awaiting consent from the experts, to notify the committee.
The Minister informed that the committee along with examining other issues pertaining to the Code will also examine the relaxation of obtaining one month residence certificate for foreign nationals born in Goa and having Goan land lineage.
Cabral said that the government also wants to give relief to the foreign nationals with Goan origin and hence in the process to ease the Rules. Cabral, however, told the House that a provision in the existing Law allows foreign nationals to register the marriage in Goa within a day, with permission from the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP).
Earlier, Lourenco said that foreign nationals of Goan origin are facing difficulties in getting their marriage registered due to the mandate of residence certificate.
