The villagers particularly from Porba Vaddo made the demand in view of frequent power cut outs at night forcing them to use candles, etc.
Kerosene could have been used to light the lamps during power cuts, they opined.
Calangute resident Rajesh said,”We have been facing frequent power cuts at nights, forcing us to use candles etc. The candles hardly last for an hour or so, but the kerosene lamps could have come handy at nights during power cuts”.   The Department of Civil Supplies should therefore re-consider giving kerosene to the gas consumers as well, as it could come handy to use lamps at nights”.
Monday evening, parts of Calangute were in darkness until around 11 pm due to snapping of 11KVA line near Paradise Resort at Tivai Vaddo, Calangute.
The repair work was also hampered as a linesman allegedly suffered a shock while working on the electricity pole.  He was given medical attention immediately.
Others on duty were a little reluctant to climb the pole recalling the recent electrocution of a contract labourer while working on the pole at Gaura Vaddo, Calangute.
The power supply was finally restored after 11 pm.
Engineers Baretto and Chandran personally supervised the work with the Junior Engineers.
According to sources in the electricity department, two 11KVA lines had snapped which forced a power shutdown in these areas.
