With huge and numerous craters, Ponda roads have become death traps

PONDA: With incessant rains lashing the State since last four days, more potholes have sprung up on the roads in Ponda town and on the Borim-Dhavlim highway turning them into death traps.
The most affected are the two-wheeler riders, many of whom have met with self accidents due to the huge potholes on the roads.
Since the roads are flooded submerging the potholes, the riders often crash land in potholes and get trapped; the vehicles trailing them either crash against the trapped two-wheelers or run over them.
Narrating her horrifying personal experience, a Shiroda resident Preeti Naik said that one day while returning home from work at 8 pm on her scooter, she skidded off after landing in a crater at Top Cola, Borim. She was thrown off the vehicle due to hard landing. And an oncoming truck ran over her scooter crushing it completely. “I narrowly escaped from coming under the truck wheels,” recounted Preeti, who works at Ponda.
She blamed the local panchayat and the PWD for not repairing the “deadly” potholes.
As for Ponda, the potholes on the roads in the town are becoming ever deeper and bigger. Two days ago, a huge crater sprung up at Almedia High School.
Since the roads have not been properly restored after the construction of sewerage chambers, commuting on Ponda roads has become a nightmare.
Many two-wheeler riders have fallen off from their vehicles after hitting the potholes; some of them even suffered fractures. Commuting on these roads is also causing back pain to many motorists.
A concerned citizen Minguel Fernandes has demanded that the roads be repaired immediately.
