With proper mindset can create wealth from waste: Minister

Says to keep Goa clean and green, the work of plants at Bainguinim and Cacora has to be taken up on priority basis

MAPUSA: “Waste is any substance which is discarded after primary use, if proper mindset is applied we can create wealth from such waste,” stated Minister for Science and Technology Michael Lobo at a meeting held at Saligao, on Friday.
The minister was addressing the heads of departments and stakeholders after inaugurating a workshop on environment friendly handling and recovery construction debris in Goa.
Further, the minister said, “To keep Goa clean and green, the work of plants at Bainguinim and Cacora has to be taken up on priority basis.” 
Focusing on clean Goa concept, the minister said, household, restaurant, construction debris, waste from hotels, building and colonies have to be treated on priority basis; this can be possible only if Bainguinim and Cacora plants start operating. 
“People shouldn’t oppose for such clean, green and environmental friendly projects as it will help to maintain the clean image of the State all over the globe, which attracts tourists in large numbers,” he added.
Lobo said, “There is no waste in other countries, as they call it as energy. Such positive approach has to be built in the mind-set of Goans for which he said SINTEF will provide good solution on dry wastes that we see all over in Goa.”
Others present were Deputy Consul General Royal Norwegian Consulate General Mumbai Henrik Width; Senior Scientist SINTEF Dr Christian J Engelsen; Chief Operating Officer IL&FS Dr Gaurav Bhatiani and Managing Director Goa Waste Management Corporation Levinson Martins.
The workshop was organised by Goa Waste Management Corporation in collaboration with SINTEFF, CPWD and IL&FS Academy of Applied Development, at Goa Waste Management Corporation building.
Earlier, Levinson welcomed and Dr Gaurav Bhatiani proposed the vote of thanks.
Various sessions by eminent personalities were held on technical, operational and environmental aspects, business and policy aspects and on standards and quality control during the day-long workshop.
