PONDA: Even though the panchayat elections are round the corner, the musical chairs to change a sarpanch continued in Curti-Khandepar Panchayat. With the panchayat polls scheduled in June, Dadi Naik was elected as sarpanch and Gurudas Khedekar as his deputy.

The posts had fallen vacant after No Confidence Motion was passed recently against Sarpanch Bhika Kerkar and Deputy Sharmila Sangaonkar, who were elected just three months back. With this development of musical chairs in the panchayat, the locals blamed the panchayat body for the instability and questioned whether they are doing it for development or for their vested interest.

It may be recalled that the musical chairs began since panchayat elections were held in 2017. So far eight sarpanchas have enjoyed the post in the 11-member panchayat. On Monday, Dadi Naik became the ninth sarpanch, who is enjoying the post second time in his tenure.

It may be recalled that after the panchayat body was elected in 2017, Rukma Khandeparkar became first sarpanch, followed by Santan Fernandes, Dadi Naik, Shailesh Shet, Shravani Gaude, while Gurudas Khedekar enjoying the post twice and Bhika Kerkar was the eighth sarpanch. And now on Monday once again Dadi Naik got re-elected sarpanch, who is the ninth till date for the Curti-Khandepar Village Panchayat.
