With single centre catering to four constituencies, citizens wait in snaking queues for Aadhaar corrections

CURCHOREM: Residents of Curchorem, Sanguem, Quepem, and Sanvordem constituencies are facing difficulties in getting their Aadhaar cards corrected due to the absence of facilities in their respective areas. For the past month, citizens have been forced to queue up at the Aadhaar card correction centre in Curchorem as it is the only available option for the four neighbouring constituencies. This situation has left residents upset with the insensitivity of the government machinery.

The inconvenience of standing in long queues under the scorching heat, especially for senior citizens, has been a daily ordeal. Despite the rising temperatures on hot summer days, people start lining up as early as 6 am to secure a spot for Aadhaar card correction. Only around 60 to 70 individuals manage to complete their corrections, while the rest are compelled to return another day.

Residents from Netravalim, Kurpem (Sanguem constituency), and Kale

Kule (Sanvordem constituency) can also be seen joining the queues at the Aadhaar card correction centre in Curchorem.

Maria Mascrahnehas, a panch from Xeldem Panchayat, expressed concern over the plight of senior

citizens who have to stand in the queue all day long for Aadhaar correction. She

emphasized the need for separate facilities to ease their burden.

Aditya Desai, a local resident of Curchorem, urged the government to establish Aadhaar card correction offices in each of the constituencies, including Quepem, Sanguem, Curchorem, and Sanvordem. Desai emphasized the urgency of reducing the stress and pressure on the people, particularly senior citizens. He called for the government and MLAs to address this issue promptly.

“Furthermore, the government should take into account the strain faced by the Aadhaar card correction staff, as they often find themselves understaffed. Reports indicate that only one or two employees are available at times, further intensifying their workload and stress,” he added.
