PONDA: With temperature soaring high, Pondaites on Saturday tried to beat the heat with various measures to cool themselves.
The locals have started asking questions is this the effect of global warming?
Some also gave a remedy stating that the State government should take afforestation and reforestation measures seriously.
Since past two days, a change in weather condition with scorching heat, have started causing health issues to the locals.
A cloudy atmosphere has been prevailing for the last two days and locals were expecting some rains to get relief from the heat. However, there was no sign of change in weather.
During pick of the day, temperature was soaring high between 33 and 36 degree Celsius, which were unbearable.
Many locals in Ponda Taluka said, “Past two days we have spent sleepless nights due to scorching heat. Only people with ACs were able to beat the heat while the ‘aam admi’ tried to beat the heat with consuming cold drinks, fruit juices etc. During the night, at many places power failures occurred which added to the woes, forcing to face the mosquito bites.”
