PANJIM: A delegation of Mapusa-based political office bearers, social workers and activists on Friday met Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and submitted a memorandum to him regarding cases filed against social workers, activists and politicians under Section 188 of IPC during Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
Briefing mediapersons outside Raj Bhavan at Dona Paula, Kamat said that that they brought to the notice of the Governor one case wherein the activists were slapped with IPS sections when they had gone to Cuchelim on May 17, 2020, where an illegal land development work was carried out in the guise of lockdown by excavating the traditional football and cricket playground and converted into plots by constructing roads and gutters.
Kamat said that they been chargesheeted under IPC sections including 188 read with 149 of IPC and trial is going on in the court.
He however expressed his anger over targeting few from the mob and filing cases against them for stopping illegalities but not initiating any action against those indulged in such illegalities.
Kamat informed that Governor Pillai listened to their grievances and advised them to approach the appropriate department as Raj Bhavan had limited constitutional powers and expressed satisfaction for guiding them regarding the whole episode. The delegation comprised Shiv Sena State Chief Jitesh Kamat, Congress General Secretary Vijay Bhike and Secretary Sanjay Barde, RTI activist Jawaharlal Shetye, Mapusa Youth Organisation President Pravin Asolkar and social worker Shekhar Naik.
