Withdraw FIRs against protestors: MP

Margao: South Goa Member of Parliament (MP) Francisco Sardinha has called the happenings in Goa unfortunate at a time when the government is celebrating 60 years of liberation.

He has advised the government to let the will of the people prevail in democracy.

Sardinha has requested the government to stop the acquisition and also withdraw the FIRs filed against the people of Melauli. “Don’t suppress the voices of the people by using the police,” advised the South Goa MP.

On the promises given to the farmers, Sardinha asked the farmers not to rely on the promises made by the government. “Start the (Sanjivani) sugar factory soon and give the pending payments to the farmers” Sardinha demanded.

On the issue of beef supply and shortage, he pointed out that even after promises of starting the abattoir of Goa it has not been started. “The government must avoid the situation where the influx of meat to Goa is stopped again. The government should side by side start the Goa Meat Complex so that the supply of meat is not hampered,” he said.

Sardinha has yet again demanded for the double-tracking project to be stopped as the people of Goa do not want the project.

On Cannabis cultivation, Sardinha said “We do not want to listen to the advice of the Law Department on matters of culture and identity of Goa. The manner in which we don’t slaughter cows in Goa, we don’t want cannabis cultivation. We don’t want the future generation of the State to get destroyed,” pointed out Sardinha.

On the Sancoale issue, he  demanded that an FIR be filed against the persons who are involved in disturbing the peace and harmony of Goa.
