‘Withdraw permission to hotel project near Mount Mary Chapel’

PANJIM: The Save Old Goa Action Committee on Tuesday demanded withdrawal of permission for a resort project near Mount Mary Chapel.

Speaking to reporters, a committee member said, “It has been three months since we lodged our protest but nothing has happened. We asked for the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) file with the construction details of the laterite project but they haven’t given us yet. When the government announced the project 17,000 people opposed the project, but the government has not rejected it,” said a committee member.

They said even on December 22, 2023, a meeting of the Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (IPB) was held but again nothing was done. “It clearly indicates that this government is hell bent on selling Goa,” he alleged.

He also pointed out that Mount Marry Chapel is closed for the last one year due to maintenance work and asked why it is taking so much time to repair a small chapel.

He alleged that the chapel repair work is being delayed as the government wants to facilitate the construction of the resort.

“I demand that the Chief Minister Pramod Sawnat, Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho and IDC Chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco reject the permission given to the project immediately. If not done then we will be forced to take further steps which include taking to streets,” he said.
