MARGAO: After being launched with much fanfare, the two multi-utility e-vehicles of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) are already facing operational issues and are now unable to carry out the various cleaning tasks they were purchased for.

The vehicles which are meant for cleaning footpaths and pavers amongst other public facilities have not taken off as planned due to the absence of semi-skilled personnel to operate the machines fitted to the vehicles.

Once the operators have been sourced, the work will start.

The failure on the part of the civic body to ensure that these vehicles were put to use has received criticism from citizens given that MMC has spent huge funds on this project.

Responding to queries from media persons, MMC Chief Officer Rohit Kadam said the contract was signed with a Mumbai-based agency on a pilot basis and the same can be terminated after two months’ time if the work on the part of the agency is found to be unsatisfactory.

Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) convenor Savio Coutinho has already issued a warning that they would file a complaint with the authorities and he also listed various irregularities that have already taken place.
